At UCC Burlington, we believe that faith formation is a life-long endeavor. Our relationships with God and our understanding of Christianity never stop evolving and growing. Because of this, it’s a priority for us to have opportunities to gather together outside of Sunday morning to engage the Bible and relevant current topics in conversation with our faith. Our Pastor, Rev. Angela Wells, leads our Adult Education program, occasionally assisted by a co-leader. The sessions are usually about 6 weeks long. We have one session in the fall (around September/October) and we offer another series in the spring (this usually coordinates with Lent, the 40-day season before Easter).
Here is a sampling of recent Adult Education books that we’ve read together:
Spring 2013: The Meaning of Jesus: Two Visions, by Marcus Borg and N.T. Wright
Fall 2014: Exploring the Bible: Introducing the Old Testament, by Rev. Anne Robertson
Advent 2014: All I Really Want: Readings for a Modern Christmas, by Quinn G. Caldwell
Spring 2015: Exploring the Bible: Introducing the New Testament, by Rev. Anne Robertson
Fall 2015: Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Spring 2016: Being Mortal, by Atul Gawande
If you are interested in participating in future Adult Education opportunities and would like to be notified of upcoming series, please email Rev. Wells at RevWells@UCCBurlington.org. Additionally, if there’s a specific topic that you’d like to explore or if you have a book suggestion, she is always open to input and ideas.
